Prior to Whimsy Games, Denys held various lead positions within the big game dev studio space where he developed skills in management, analytics, and traffic marketing. Through this experience, he gained valuable insight into the game development process and how it ideally should work. Utilizing this experience, he started Whimsy Games and is currently CEO of the marketing and sales department.
Denys looks back on his journey and remembers how, as a team lead, he was confident in his skills and had enough experience to take on bigger challenges. But that wasn’t enough - he wanted to push himself further, explore new opportunities, and build something of his own.
With an idea for a company in mind, he decided to take a chance on a new career path. But he knew he couldn’t do it alone. He teamed up with two close friends and launched it as a side project. At first, they managed everything themselves, but as the workload grew, it became clear they needed extra hands.
Since the business wasn’t profitable right away, they had to use their own money to hire their first employee. Determined to make it work, they started looking for talent on Upwork, offering $3/hour to get things moving. Things really took off when they brought on their second developer - it was the start of something bigger.
A few years later, the company had grown to 30 employees, completed multiple projects, and built a strong reputation with satisfied clients. Looking back, Denys knows taking that leap of faith was one of the best decisions he ever made.
